Engels in Manchester
Engels went to Manchester when he was 22, in 1842. In Manchester, Engels met Mary Burns: they began a relationship that lasted 20 years until her death in 1863. She guided Engels through Manchester and Salford, showing him the worst districts for his research. His notes became articles for his influential first book, The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845). In the book, Engels described the "grim future of capitalism and the industrial age".
Today it's Engels death anniversary (August 5th, 1895).
Engels got back in Manchester: his two-tonne statue brought from Ukraine to Manchester by the artist Phil Collins (not the musician!), this summer is a matter of debate. See the video in the mainpage.
